Guangdong, HK, Macao to strengthen tourism cooperation

MACAO, June 9 (Xinhua) -- The tourism authorities of Macao,
Guangdong and Hong Kong agreed to continue their efforts and
strengthen cooperation in several major areas during a meeting
held here on Wednesday.
Officials of Guangdong Provincial Tourism Administration, Hong
Kong Tourism Board and Macao Government Tourist Office attended

Gold price closes lower in Hong Kong -- June 9

HONG KONG, June 9 (Xinhua) -- The gold price in Hong Kong went
down 68 HK dollars to 11,468 HK dollars per tael on Wednesday,
according to the Chinese Gold and Silver Exchange Society.
The price is equivalent to 1,234.00 U.S. dollars a troy ounce,
down 7.32 U.S. dollars at Wednesday's exchange rate of one U.S.

world's top manufacturer of business jet, said here Wednesday that

FAW-Volkswagen to build 8 bln-yuan factory in Foshan, S China

GUANGZHOU, June 9 (Xinhua) -- FAW-Volkswagen Automobile Co.
Ltd. plans to invest 8 billion yuan (1.17 billion U.S. dollars) to
build a factory in Foshan City, in south China's Guangdong
Province, local authorities said Wednesday.
FAW-Volkswagen, a Sino-German joint venture, signed a deal with
Foshan's Nanhai District Government Wednesday to build the plant
between 2011 and 2013, a district government spokesperson said.

21st World Energy Congress to be held in Montreal in September

BEIJING, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Secretary General of the World
Energy Council (WEC) Christoph W. Frei said here Wednesday the
21st World Energy Congress will be held in Canada's second-largest
city, Montreal, in September.
The five-day congress will start on Sept. 12 and is expected to
attract more than 90 countries to discussions about the world's

China approves guidelines to enhance forest protection

BEIJING, June 9 (Xinhua) -- The State Council, China's cabinet,
approved guidelines Wednesday that protect, restore and ensure the
sustainable use of forests for the 2010-2020 period.
Participants at the State Council meeting, chaired by Premier
Wen Jiabao, reviewed and approved the guidelines for forest
protection and utilization for the 10-year period.
The guidelines say China will lift its forest coverage to 223
million hectares by the end of 2020, or 23 percent of the national area.

Japanese defense minister unconfident over gaining Okinawa consent on Futenma issue

TOKYO, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Defense Minister Toshimi Kitazawa
said Wednesday he is not sure if the newly-formed government could
get consent of Okinawa Prefecture on the Japan-U.S. accord to
relocate a key U.S. base within the prefecture.

think that we can fully gain the consent of Okinawa by the end of August."
