ChiNext Index up -- June 9

BEIJING, June 9 (Xinhua) -- The ChiNext Index, launched by the
Shenzhen Stock Exchange last Tuesday, was up 10.67 points, or 1
percent, to close at 1077.82 points in Wednesday's trading.
The index, together with the Shenzhen Component Index and the
Shenzhen SME (small and medium-sized enterprises) Board Index,
makes up the three core indices reflecting the performance of
China's stocks listed on the exchange.
The ChiNext Board, which started trading on Oct. 30, 2009, is a
Nasdaq-style growth enterprises board, and mainly lists high-tech

China's government freezes hotel allowance caps for officials

BEIJING, June 9 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Finance has
frozen its 300-yuan (44 U.S. dollars) maximum hotel room allowance
for government officials on business trips to provincial capitals
for a further two years.
The cap would be lower for prefecture-level cities, said a statement
posted on the ministry website Wednesday, without giving details.
The statement said three-star hotels would be the top
accommodation for government officials. The standard rate for
single and twin rooms should be no more than 300 yuan a night,

China's May consumer confidence weakens amid market fluctuations

BEIJING, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese spent less in May amid
volatile stock market fluctuations in the wake of the European
sovereign debt crisis, according to the latest reading of an index
that gauges consumer confidence published Wednesday.
The Bankcard Consumer Confidence Index (BCCI), compiled by
Xinhua News Agency and national bank card association China
UnionPay, slid to 86.39 in May, down 0.41 points from April.
Compared with the same period last year, the May BCCI figure
was 0.89 points higher. The index hit a record high of 86.89 in March.

Securities regulator reviews Agricultural Bank of China's IPO plan

BEIJING, June 9 (Xinhua) -- China's securities regulators
Wednesday began reviewing Agricultural Bank of China Limited's
initial public offering application as the lender finalized
preparations for its dual listing in Shanghai and Hong Kong.
The China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) Public
Offering Review Committee is expected to announce the review
result later Wednesday.
The bank is yet to decide its share price range if it receives
regulatory approval. Analysts believe it will be in the 2.5 yuan

Fire risk sparks Shanghai GM Cadillac recall

BEIJING, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai GM is recalling 4,199
imported Cadillac vehicles installed with faulty windshield wiper
fluid systems that could lead to fires, China's top quality
watchdog said Wednesday.
The recall involves 1,032 Escalade vehicles made from 2007 to
2009, and 3,167 CTS models made in 2008 and 2009, said the General
Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine

BEIJING, June 9 (Xinhua) -- China's stock index futures opened
mixed Wednesday. The contract for settlement in June, the most
actively traded, opened at 2,720.4, down from 2,724.4 the previous
trading day.

Sinopec to beef up refining capacity in 2010

BEIJING, June 9 (Xinhua) -- China's top refiner Sinopec was set
to process 10 percent more crude oil in 2010 compared with last
year, the China Daily reported Wednesday.
The Beijing-based firm's oil refining capacity has seen a
10-percent growth year on year in the past few years, Chen Yaohuan,
deputy director of the company's refining business, was quoted as
saying by the English-language newspaper.
The company has built several oil refiners in China's Yangtze
River Delta, the Pearl River Delta and the Bohai Sea Rim area,
Chen said.

ChiNext Index opens higher Wedesday

BEIJING, June 9 (Xinhua) -- ChiNext stocks opened higher
Wednesday, with the ChiNext Index opening at 1,070.85, up from
1,067.15 from the previous trading day.
The index, officially launched on June 1 on the Shenzhen Stock
Exchange, has a base value of 1,000 points.
