China 2015 property investment slows

BEIJING, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- The annual growth of China's property investment continued to cool to 1 percent in 2015, a sharp decrease from the 10.5-percent growth in 2014, official data showed on Tuesday.
The yearly reading was down from 1.3-percent growth for the first 11 months and 2-percent growth for the Jan.-Oct. period, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said.

China retail sales rise 11.1 pct in Dec.

BEIJING, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- China's retail sales of consumer goods performed well in December thanks to pro-consumption policies from the government, official data showed Tuesday.
Retail sales, a key indicator of consumer spending, rose 11.1 percent year on year to 2.86 trillion yuan (436 billion U.S. dollars), according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
The growth rate was still encouraging although slightly down from 11.2 percent in November.
In 2015, retail sales grew 10.7 percent from a year earlier, slower than the 12-percent increase registered in 2014.

Chinese automakers to gain larger market share globally: KPMG survey

Beijing, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese automakers will continue to gain a larger global market share in the next five years thanks to strong demand, according to KPMG's annual automotive survey.
According to the 17th Global Automotive Executive Survey, which was released Monday, 20 Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), including five from China, are expected to gain larger global market shares in the next five years. Meanwhile, one sixth of global executives say they will increase investment in terms of production in China, followed by Germany and India.

Police smashes illegal organization jeopardizing China's national security

Beijing sees slower population growth

BEIJING, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- The permanent population of China's capital of Beijing was 21.7 million by the end of 2015, close to the whole of Australia, despite it being the slowest growth in years, according to official data.
Defined as people who have lived in the city for six months or more, the permanent population in Beijing recorded a yearly growth of 0.9 percent in 2015, down from the growth of 2.9 percent in 2011, according to a report released by the Beijing Statistics Bureau and the National Bureau of Statistics on Tuesday.

Chinese president's visit to Egypt to be historical, fruitful for both sides

CAIRO, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Local media in Egypt on Tuesday hailed Chinese President Xi Jinping's upcoming visit to Cairo as a "historical" leap in the mutual comprehensive ties.
"The visit is completion of steps that have started from both sides on the road of cooperation at several levels, especially the strategic one," said Essam al-Sebai, managing editor of state-run Akhbar newspaper.
The visit will shadow a very old mutual heritage and strong history of cooperation and common interests, al-Sebai told Xinhua.

Deputy head of mainland's Taiwan affairs authority under probe: CCDI

BEIJING, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- The top anti-graft body announced on Tuesday that the deputy head of the Chinese mainland's Taiwan affairs authority has been placed under investigation.
Gong Qinggai, deputy head of the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, is suspected of serious disciplinary violations, said the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection in a statement.

South China Sea projects to provide myriad civic benefits: Chinese ambassador

TOKYO, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- China's ambassador to Japan Cheng Yonghua said during a public speech on Tuesday in Tokyo that the development of artificial islands in the South China Sea are for civic purposes that could benefit the international community.
Cheng dismissed concerns from some quarters about China's testing of a newly-built airfield on a reef in the South China Sea, stating that the aircraft used was civilian and that all tests were within international laws.

China urges Japan to be cautious on South, East China Sea comments

BEIJING, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- China on Tuesday urged Japan to be cautious with its comments on the South China Sea and East China Sea.
Japan should do more to enhance mutual trust with neighboring countries and promote regional stability, instead of sowing discord, said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hong Lei at a routine press briefing.
