China slams Philippines illegal plans for Zhongye Dao Island

BEIJING, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- China on Tuesday said plans by the Philippines to build on Zhongye Dao Island in the South China Sea were illegal.
"China has indisputable sovereignty over the Nansha Islands, including Zhongye Dao Island," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hong Lei at a regular press briefing in response to a question about the Philippines' intention to install a civil aviation satellite tracking system on the island.

12 fishermen missing in east China

HANGZHOU, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Twelve people aboard a fishing boat went missing early Tuesday morning in the East China Sea, local authorities said.
The boat named Zhedaiyu 03803, from Daishan County of coastal Zhoushan City in Zhejiang Province, lost contact early Monday morning, according to the municipal maritime and fisheries bureau.
Rescue boats and helicopters are searching at the site. Stormy waves have hindered the rescue, according to the bureau. Enditem

Chinese anti-Fascist film based on Scottish missonary to be released

BEIJING, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- "The Last Race", a historical film based on the life of Eric Liddell, a Scottish athlete and missionary in China during World War II, will be screened nationwide in May.
The movie tells the story of Xu Niu, who rescued Liddell and other foreign civilian prisoners held in a Japanese concentration camp during the war.
The role of Liddell is played by British actor Joseph Fiennes, who starred in "Shakespeare in Love" and "Elizabeth."

Chinese archaeologists locate ancient city famed for political reform

XI'AN, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese archaeologists have located the remains of an ancient city in which a famed political reform took place about
2300 years ago.
The remains of Yueyang City, capital of the Qin state during the Warring States Period (476-221 BC), is confirmed to be in the northeastern district of Yanliang in China's Xi'an city, said Liu Rui, a researcher with the Institute of Archeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

BEIJING, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- China's asset securitization products surged last year thanks to a pilot program that provided greater operational flexibility for banks' liquidity and capital management.
Asset securitization, generally, is the transformation of non-liquid assets into securities, for example into instruments that can be traded on
the capital market.
The issuance of asset securitization products amounted more than 593 billion yuan (89.8 billion U.S. dollars) in 2015, a 79-percent increase from 2014, China Central Depository & Clearing (CCDC) said Monday.

BEIJING, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- China's new policy to allow the economic planner to stop reducing refined oil prices when crude prices go below 40 dollars per barrel is credit positive for the country's national oil companies, a Moody's report said Monday.
China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec), and China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) will benefit because higher profits for refining will likely moderate the negative effect of lower crude prices on the companies' upstream exploration and production segment, the report noted.
