Small-cap stocks lead Chinese rally Monday

BEIJING, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares had a rocky opening but recouped losses in the afternoon session on Monday, ending on an upbeat note.
The Shanghai index gained 0.44 percent to close at 2,913.84 points. The smaller Shenzhen index climbed 1.58 percent to close at 10,155.96 points.
The ChiNext Index, the NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, surged 2.94 percent to close at 2,174.93 points.
The handsome gains posted by the ChiNext Index and small-cap stocks pulled the market back from negative territory and managed a positive
closing note.

Beijing to build more charging posts for electric cars

BEIJING, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Beijing will build more charging posts for electric cars in 2016, an official with the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission said.
Beijing already has about 5,000 charging posts, and it will build another 5,000 this year, said Zhang Guanglian, deputy director of the commission.
Through web applications, electric car drivers will be able to check the location and availability of charging facilities and make payments, he said.

Chinese vice president to attend WEF annual meeting

BEIJING, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao will attend the 46th World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting from Wednesday to Friday, a foreign ministry spokesperson announced Monday in Beijing.
Li's attendance is at the invitation of WEF founder and executive chairman Klaus Schwab, said spokesperson Hong Lei.

China sees rising online fraud in 2015: report

TIANJIN, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- China has seen increased online fraud, particularly in the field of P2P lending, in the past year, a report showed.
According to a report published by online security company Liewang, who's name translates to Web Hunt, it handled 24,886 reports of online fraud, up 7.96 percent from last year.
The claims were worth a total 127 million yuan in 2015. Per capita claims were 5,106 yuan, about 1.5 times the number in 2014, it said.

China to levy reserve requirements on overseas financial institutions

BEIJING, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- China's central bank decided to normalize the reserve requirements on deposits placed by overseas financial institutions at their branches in the country starting from Jan. 25, according to a statement released by the People's Bank of China (PBOC) on Monday.
Overseas financial institutions do not include central banks and other similar agencies such as official reserve managers, international financial organizations and sovereign wealth funds.

China's home prices continue to pick up in December

BEIJING, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- China's real estate sector warmed further in December, with more major cities reporting month-on-month rises in new
home prices.
Of the 70 large and medium-sized cities surveyed in December, new home prices climbed month on month in 39, up from 33 in the previous month, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Monday.
Meanwhile, 27 reported month-on-month price declines, level with November, according to NBS data.
On a yearly basis, 21 cities posted new home price increases and 49 reported falls, the same with that in November.

BEIJING, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Defined as "the key year of comprehensively deepening reforms," 2015 saw a series of milestones achieved by China.
While existing measures were being implemented, China in 2015 kept pushing its reform campaign forward, and entered a "deep-water zone."

Chinese president's Iran visit extraordinary event for bilateral ties: Chinese envoy

TEHRAN, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping is about to visit Iran later this week, and that will be an extraordinary event for the relationship of the two nations, said Pang Sen, Chinese ambassador to Iran.
Days before Xi's visit, Pang told Xinhua in an interview that the trip will, in his words, leave "an indelible mark" in the history of bilateral high-level exchanges between Beijing and Tehran.
Over the past two year, China and Iran have seen a series of high-level exchanges, and that have strengthened their mutual trust and understanding.
