Egypt vows to stick to one China policy

CAIRO, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Egypt reaffirmed Thursday that it will continue to adhere to the one China policy as Taiwan is an integral part of China.
In a document outlining the actions Beijing and Cairo will take in the next five years to strengthen their comprehensive strategic partnership, the two sides promised to support each other's core interests
and attend to their respective concerns.

Chinese cities prepare for life in deep freeze

HANGZHOU, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese cities are ready to ensure the warmth of every resident, from homeless vagrants to zoo animals, in face of what could be the coldest week in decades.
In Zhejiang Province in east China, where heavy snow began on Thursday, more than 8,900 temporary shelters have been opened for the homeless and citizens trapped by snow storms, the province's civil affairs department said, adding that street patrols are directing homeless people to nearby refuges and offering food and quilts to those who do not wish to go.

China to reform old, boost new growth engines: premier

BEIJING, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Breakthroughs will be made in steel and coal sectors in reforms of traditional industries, along with China's efforts to cultivate new growth engines, the Chinese premier said on Wednesday.
It is crucial to make a good start for the 13th Five-Year Plan period, according to a statement released after a symposium of the State Council, chaired by Premier Li Keqiang, to discuss key work for this year.
"Steel and coal sectors should take the lead in cutting overcapacity, digest unreasonable inventories, reduce costs and improve efficiency," he said.

Indonesia, China launch Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway project

WALINI, Indonesia, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's first ever high-speed railway project kicked off Thursday in Walini, West Java Province, marking a major achievement in railway cooperation between China and Indonesia.
Chinese State Councilor Wang Yong, who attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the project, read a congratulatory message from Chinese President Xi Jinping to Indonesian President Joko Widodo at the ceremony.

China's economic transition -- from investment and manufacturing to services and consumption -- is manageable, International Monetary Fund (IMF) managing director Christine Lagarde said at a panel on Thursday in the WEF with the theme: "Where Is the Chinese Economy Heading?"

New fund established for China's empty nesters

China urges checks for pneumoconiosis as cases grow

BEIJING, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese employers have been told to frequently check workers' health in pneumoconiosis-prone fields and ensure treatment for those diagnosed with the illness.
Official figures released in December revealed the country recorded 26,873 new cases in 2014, a 16-percent increase from the previous year.
A disease of the lungs caused by the inhalation of large amounts of dust or particulate matter, pneumoconiosis accounted for nearly 90 percent of all occupational disease cases reported last year.

China's consumer market to boom despite economic slowdown: MOC

BEIJING, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- China's domestic consumption will continue to expand steadily in 2016, the Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday.
Consumption, which contributed 66.4 percent to the country's GDP last year, will remain a stronger force driving economic growth this year as effects of the country's supply-side reform policies start to pay off, the ministry said in a statement on its website.
It expected the supply-side reform to boost China's consumption in sectors such as smart energy solutions, services and environmentally friendly products.

China's commerce ministry wants stable yuan: spokesman

BEIJING, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOC) is willing to see a basically stable yuan, which will make foreign trade easier, spokesman Shen Danyang said Thursday.
"Theoretically, a weakening yuan benefits Chinese exporters. In fact, clear depreciation anticipation could erode their advantages during negotiations with foreign buyers," said Shen.
He said many exporters told the MOC that business will be easier in anticipation of a largely stable yuan.

China to place business restrictions on defaulters

BEIJING, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- China will impose 55 restrictive measures on those who deliberately fail to pay compensation awarded by the courts, according to the Supreme People's Court (SPC) on Thursday.
A total of 44 central authorities, such as the SPC, the People's Bank of China and the National Development and Reform Commission, have signed a memorandum of understanding on non-performance and default.
