China to issue digital currency "as soon as possible"

BEIJING, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- China's central bank on Wednesday announced that it will try to issue digital currency "as soon as possible."
A team in the central bank is examining domestic and global experiences. Digital currency costs less in circulation than traditional paper, facilitates trade, boosts transparency, and cuts money laundering and tax evasion, according to the People's Bank of China at a conference on digital currency.

Trade disputes still affect China's foreign trade: MOC

BEIJING, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- China's foreign trade is still affected by trade disputes, though trade remedy investigations targeting Chinese products declined last year, an official of the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said Wednesday.
A total of 22 countries and regions launched 85 trade remedy investigations targeting Chinese products in 2015, down 12 percent compared with the number of cases in 2014, MOC spokesman Shen Danyang revealed at a press conference.
The probes involved 8 billion U.S. dollars in 2015, down 24 percent year on year, said the spokesman.

China central bank injects 23 billion USD funds via SLO

BEIJING, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- China's central bank on Wednesday injected 150 billion yuan (22.9 billion U.S. dollars) into the money market through short-term liquidity operations (SLO).
The six-day SLO loans will come at 2.25-percent, the People's Bank of China (PBOC) said on its website.
The SLO was launched in 2013, focused on a maturity of less than seven days, allowing the PBOC to manipulate short-term liquidity and prevent sharp fluctuations in the money market.

12 agreements signed between Chinese and Egyptian companies

CAIRO, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese trade delegation led by the Ministry of Commerce signed 12 agreements on Tuesday with Egyptian companies in Cairo, with the total contract value reaching 60.4 million U.S. dollars.
Ranging from olive oil, fruits, medical equipments, metal products, chemical materials, to textile raw materials, the involving Egyptian companies are those with comparative advantages.

Price declines impact China's trade with oil exporters

BEIJING, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- The plunge in oil prices dragged down China's trade with Saudi Arabia and Iran last year, but growth potentials remain to be exploited, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said Wednesday.
In the first 11 months of 2015, China's total trade with Saudi Arabia dropped 25.2 percent year on year to 47.66 billion U.S. dollars while that with Iran slumped 34.6 percent to 31.09 billion U.S. dollars, MOC spokesperson Shen Danyang said at a press conference.

Decline in China's luxury consumption widens in 2015

SHANGHAI, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Decline in China's luxury consumption widened in 2015 amid the government's ongoing anti-corruption campaign, a slowing economy and increased buying outside China, according to a report released on Wednesday.
China's luxury consumption growth slowed in 2013 and began to contract in 2014 as the government's austerity drive and ongoing anti-graft campaign capped demand. The decline widened to 2 percent last year, compared to 1 percent in 2014, said consulting firm Bain & Company in a report.

Rare earth trade up five-fold through national exchange

HOHHOT, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Around 227,000 tonnes of rare earth products were bought and sold through China's first national rare earth trading platform in 2015, up more than fivefold from the amount in its inaugural year
of 2014.
Turnover in 2015 reached over 24 billion yuan (around 4 billion U.S. dollars), said the Baotou Rare Earth Products Exchange on Wednesday.
Launched in March 2014 in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the exchange processed 35,000 tonnes of rare earth products, with a turnover of more than 5.6 billion yuan, in that year.

Chinese state councilor to attend HSR groundbreaking in Indonesia

BEIJING, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Wang Yong will visit Indonesia from Wednesday to Friday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hong Lei said on Wednesday at a regular press briefing.
Wang will meet Indonesian President Joko Widodo and they will attend the groundbreaking ceremony for a high-speed railway (HSR) that will link Jakarta with the provincial capital of West Java, Bandung.
"This will be the first HSR in Indonesia," Hong said, adding that the project will promote bilateral pragmatic cooperation and comprehensive
strategic partnerships.

China sets new limit on fuel consumption

BEIJING, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- The fuel consumption standard of light commercial vehicles will be lowered from 2018 to improve energy efficiency of new vehicles, authorities announced on Wednesday.
The revised standard specifies 64 fuel consumption limits for light commercial vehicles depending on their mass and sizes.
The limit for light trucks is set at 5.5 liters per 100 kilometers at the lowest, down 23 percent from the standard set in 2007, according to the Standardization Administration of China.
